Society 5.0 is a term used in the “Fifth Science and Technology Basic Plan” and it was implemented in the Cabinet in January 2016 which it was showed at the Japanese government’s Council for Science, Technology and Innovation.
It is defined as “super-smart society” where cyber space and physical space (real society) are highly integrated. Society 5.0 follows on from the hunter-gatherer society, agricultural society, industrial society and information society.
So, other than Society 5.0, what is the innovation done before? Taking a long view of history, we can define Society 1.0 as groups of people hunting and gathering in harmonious coexistence with nature, Society 2.0 as forming groups based on agricultural cultivation, increasing organization and nation-building, Society 3.0 is a society that promotes industrialization through the Industrial Revolution, making mass production possible, and Society 4.0 as an information society that realizes increasing added value by connecting intangible assets as information networks. Society 5.0 is an information society built upon Society 4.0, aiming for a prosperous human-centered society
REFLECTIVE
If we look at society 5.0, we can say that it is all about technology. In Japan they are more towards super smart society. It is means that the society already have some of the skills that need in 21st century.
Is digital at its center? Digital is a means, but humans must remain as the central actors. Traditionally, innovation driven by technology has been responsible for social development, but in the future, they focusing on how to build a happy society and have a sense of worth.
